Her only love once took her heart and ran away with it, she became a sort of evil being with hate inside of herself. The man eventually came back to which she approached him, and he denied ever knowing her. She was heartbroken and decided to ask help from the gorgons to take away her human qualitites that have given her so much grief. They in turn stripped her of human attributes and she turned in to a monster, and her hair turned in to snakes.

Baldwin, James. "The Quest of Medusa's Head." www.readbookonline.net. N.p., n.d. Web. 30 Apr 2012. http://www.readbookonline.net/readOnLine/9314/.
The quest of Medusa's Head is a story directly relating to the myth of medusa. In the story a king of Argos had one child who happened to be a girl. He feared that one day he would have to share all of his wealth and power to his daughter. So the king went to Pythia and asked about his situation. Pythia told the king that one day he would have to die and the reason for his death would be his daughters son. The king was upset by this and built a type of prison for his daughter to stay in. She is eventually met and loved by Jupiter and they have a child named Perseus. The king makes a type of box to send his daughter and newborn grandson off to sea in so he could not watch them die. The two of them eventually reach an island in which Perseus grows up to become a man. He eventually goes back to the old kingdom in which his father runs in fear, but eventually is met by death.
Song related to Medusa:
Chris Brown. Medusa. In My Zone, 2011.
Chris Brown made a song titled Medusa about a woman who he met. The song was made current and uses certain items to show that it is in present tense. He picked up a beautiful girl who got in to his car. He states that she is the most beautiful thing he has ever seen, but looks in to her eyes and turns in to stone. He does not literally turn in to stone but he is more mesmorized by her beauty and is at a loss for words. The song gives great examples from the myth itself and mixes it in to more current terms. He goes on to say how she changed him, and he made sure she had everything she wanted.
TV episode related to Medusa:
"Forever"Smallville: The Complete Fourth Season.Warner Home Video, 2011. DVD.
Smallville is a tv show based upon the life of superman growing up. In one of the episodes a writer for the local newspaper is fed up and quite disturbed. He feels rejected by the Universities and decides to abduct some schoolmates to stay with him forever in a replica of the school. He uses his power of 'Medusa Touch' of turning people into stone by mere touch, and brings Lana, Chloe, and other successful schoolmates to the place. The Medusa touch is considered to be the same effect Medusa had on people who looked at her directly. In the myth when she looked in to someones eyes they would turn in to stone immediatley. In smallville they have a similar scene in which the writer touches them and they turn to stone upon his touch.
Maiko, Maya. The Truth About Medusa. n.d.
Maiko Maya created a painting of medusa that is quite amazing. The painting is somewhat simple but gives medusa justice. It shows medusa as a pretty woman in white. Medusa of course has snakes coming out of her head, and they are made to look more subtle. The backdrop is red and a hint of black making the overall painting have an eery and dark tone. Overall it captures the fact that medusa at one point in time was a beautiful woman obsessed with her own beauty and turned in to an evil creature.
The significance of the myth of medusa is fairly simple. The underlying message in the story is to cherish every aspect of life itself, and not get caught up in to one thing. Basically medusa was obsessed with her own beauty, and blocked out the rest of the world. She was blinded by her obsession and was unable to live a normal life. Medusa had no care in the world, she did not care about anything except for maintaining her beauty. This only leads to trouble in life when you are self absorbed and can not find happiness in anything except yourself.
